    Welcome to Laurel Elementary School

Laurel School is a community of active learners dedicated to the development of individual potential and social responsibility. We work together to create a Caring School Community which promotes tolerance and respect and provides a safe and nurturing environment in which students can learn. We hold high expectations for our students and have a belief that all students can learn.

    Attendance Matters

Attendance matters as early as kindergarten. Studies show children who miss too many days in kindergarten and first grade can struggle academically in later years. Students can suffer academically if they miss 10% of school days. This can be just one day every two weeks and can happen before you know it. Good attendance will help children do well in high school, college, and at work.
How can you help? • Plan vacations during non-school days • Schedule your child’s medical and dental appointments at the end of the school day • Make sure they go to school every day unless they are ill

    Remember, “Every School Day Counts”!

Absences can add up quickly. A child is chronically absent if he or she misses just two days every month.
Additionally, when children are absent, the state reduces school funding and resources toward pay for teachers and books. We all are negatively affected when a child is not in school.
